DJI's Avinox motor shakes up the electric bike market

DJI's Avinox motor shakes up the electric bike market

When the global drone leader applies its technological expertise to mobility.

Unveiled at Eurobike 2024, the DJI Avinox motor has had time to prove its worth on the field. Several months after its release, the initial feedback is unanimous: power, silence, and responsiveness. It is now featured on several high-end e-bikes and reference e-MTBs, where it fulfills the promises of the Chinese giant: a system that is compact, intelligent, and surprisingly smooth. In just a few months, DJI has established itself as a major new player in the electric bike market.

DJI Avinox e-bike motor for electric bikes

The e-bike world welcomes DJI, a new technology giant

Known for its civilian drones, stabilized cameras, and embedded electronic systems, the DJI brand is now transferring its expertise to electric mobility. Its strengths—brushless motors, gyroscopic sensors, energy management, and connected applications—find a logical continuation in the field of e-bikes.

Rather than collaborating with an existing motor manufacturer, DJI chose to develop its own complete ecosystem, named Avinox: the Drive Unit M1 motor, the PowerPack 800 Wh battery, the fast GaN charger, wireless controls, and the . This "all-in-one" approach perfectly reflects the brand's culture of innovation.

Avinox Drive Unit M1 Motor: Power, Lightweight, and Silence

Nominal Power250 W
Peak Power (Boost)1,000 W
Max Torque (Boost)120 Nm
Weight2.52 kg
Assistance ModesAuto / Eco / Trail / Turbo + 60s Boost

Weighing only 2.52 kg, it is one of the lightest motors in the full-power segment, while delivering above-average torque. automatically adjusts power thanks to gyroscopic sensors and Hall effect sensors (42 measurement points), providing smooth, natural, and almost silent assistance.

Avinox PowerPack 800 Battery: Energy Density and Ultra-Fast Charging

Capacity800 Wh
Weight3.74 kg
0–75% Charge≈ 1h 30min
Full Charge≈ 2h 30min

The PowerPack 800 is about 600 g lighter than a Bosch PowerTube 750, with equivalent autonomy. The allows you to recover 75% in 1h 30min while preserving battery life (target: with ~80% remaining capacity).

Avinox OLED Display: Connectivity and DJI-Level Security

The 2" OLED screen, derived from the Osmo Pocket 3 camera, is rotatable and touch-sensitive. It displays up to four customizable data fields and features a USB-C 65 W port for charging your smartphone or GPS.

  • Integrated GPS (recording + Strava sync)
  • Digital lock via smartphone, alarm, and geolocation
  • Full connection to the Avinox Ride App

Avinox Wireless Control: A Streamlined and Intuitive Cockpit

Two Bluetooth controls placed on either side of the handlebar ensure system control. The left handle changes assistance modes; the right allows you to navigate the screen or control compatible accessories. A single control is enough to operate the e-bike, ensuring a clear and modern cockpit.

The Amflow PL combines the stability of a full-power e-MTB with the lightness of a light-assist bike, offering smooth and natural handling.

An Evolving E-Bike Market

After a slight decline in 2024 (-12% sales in France), the e-bike remains the driving force behind the sector's growth: more than 1.9 million electric bikes sold and over 3 billion euros in revenue. In Europe, the e-bike market continues to show growth potential, with forecasts predicting a progression of over the next decade.

  • Rise of motors > 100 Nm
  • Lightweight frames and batteries
  • Generalization of connected e-bikes

The DJI Avinox motor ticks all three boxes and stimulates innovation among established motor manufacturers.

The First Brands to Adopt the DJI Avinox Motor, Available at Alberabike:
