Indeed, drawing inspiration from the years of research and innovation existing in the motorcycle to forget the weight of on-board mechanics (engine, fuel tank) Lapierre pursues the same goal of centering and balancing the masses so to make the parts cycles of these heavy bikes always more manageable and easy to drive.
The GLP concept "Gravity Logic Project" consists of placing everything heavy in the bottom and center of the bike, in this case the engine and the battery. Beyond centering the masses, reducing the overall weight of the machine has also been one of the key points in the development of this new model. Entirely made of carbon, the frame of the Lapierre Overvolt AM GLP2 2020 brings its stone to the building being 400g lighter than the previous one.
In order to offer a bike under 22kgs, Lapierre has chosen the new BOSCH PERFORMANCE CX generation 4 engine that loses 1.1kgs on the scale and offers reduced dimensions to shorten the bases of 35mm to reach a value of 440mm .
To stick with the "race" program of this bike and achieve this exceptional weight, Lapierre has chosen to keep the battery Powerpack 500 "old format" for several reasons:
- This non-integrated battery is more compact (6.7cm shorter) than Powertube models
- It is less heavy (2.8kgs) than the new Bosch 625wh Powertube (3.5kgs) is still 700grs won by this choice.
- It changes quickly in case of very long race like Epic or Transvésubienne
- It can be carried more easily in the backpack than a Powertube.
That is a total weight gain of 1.5 kg compared to the old GLP and 2.2 kg compared to a VTTAE 2020 of conventional design (battery on the down tube) in 625wh.
As in motorcycles for decades the choice of differentiated wheel sizes, 27.5+ in 2.8 (acceleration and resistance) at the rear and 29 in 2.5 (comfort and grip) at the front makes sense and will certainly become the rule in the near future in VTTAE see VTT ...
On the suspension side, even if the position of the shock absorber is different, the kinematics is taken directly from the Enduro Spicy. The clearance is 160mm at the back, while in front we find a RockShox Lyrik 170mm
The shock is 205mm long and 60mm stroke. With the new kinematics, it allows to use much lower pressures than the previous model. If the bike was designed to maximize the fun downhill, the climbs have not been forgotten either and the Overvolt AM GLP2 is also a good climber with a suspension sensitive to pedaling but still active to keep the grip.
