LAPIERRE OVERVOLT GLP 3 SE 2024

The GLP "Gravity Logic Project" concept of the Lapierre GLP consists of placing everything that is heavy, in this case the motor and the battery, at the lowest and center of the bike and making it the best "big motor" e-MTB ever designed.

Lapierre continues on this same objective of centering and mass balance in order to make the cycle parts of these e-MTBs ever more manageable and easy to ride. The motor/battery assembly has been placed as close as possible to the crankset in order to concentrate the masses around a center of gravity close to the ground, which allows the GLP to have less weight on the front of the bike and provides a light front to ride, a perfect front-rear balance and less weight in height, which provides a feeling of lightness when changing the angle of the bike.

On technical descents as in the resort, its distribution of masses optimized by the kinematics ensures and reassures the pilot and allows a total commitment and an extreme maneuverability.

Beyond the centering of the masses, reducing the overall weight of the machine was also one of the key points of the development of the GLP. The challenge is taken up since with more travel, big forks and 800wh battery, the announced weights of the GLP3 are more than flattering with: Team at 23.4kgs / SE Alpine at 23.7kgs / Elite at 24.1kgs

On this new Lapierre Overvolt AM GLP3 2024 model the frame entirely in UD SLI carbon weighs 3.5kgs without shock absorber and goes to 170mm of travel at the rear. The frame is compatible with all shock absorbers on the market and this in all sizes.

The choice of differentiated "mullet" wheel sizes is retained 27.5+ in 2.8 (acceleration, resistance and grip) at the rear and 29' in 2.5 (crossing capacity and precision) at the front retains all its meaning.

Other details appear such as the "JDD internal routing" which integrates the cables into the frame at the headset level to obtain a more refined cockpit and internal guidance of the latter in order to avoid any vibration noise and facilitate their routing.

Important detail, Lapierre has thought of practicality by keeping "classic" cable entries on the sides called "Race ready" and intended for competitors who will find there a simplicity of disassembly - reassembly in the event of a breakdown making a possible intervention faster.

The Kiox 300 screen is integrated into the top tube and the Mini Remote BRC3300 and HMI remote control connected to the system in "wireless" bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity for Smartphone, GPS or heart rate belt.

In addition to the aesthetics, the advantage is a lower risk of breaking the screen in the event of a fall or disconnection of the control wire, which has sometimes happened on the Led Remote.

Batteries: For 2024, the GLP corrects its main flaw: autonomy.

Indeed, the GLP3 is now delivered with the brand new 800wh Bosch Powerpack battery specially developed for the GLP.

The good news is that this battery format has also been developed by Bosch in 400wh and 600wh to make the GLP the only Bosch "intelligent system" Ebike that can easily choose the size of its battery when others can only ride with the original battery supplied with the bike.

This argument will appeal to competitors or those who ride 1h30-2h after work but with a lighter bike that can be reduced to 1.6kg by changing the battery.

Knowing the very reasonable consumption of the old GLP2 due to its design, we can already consider that in 800wh the GLP3 will have largely the autonomy of its "traditional" competitors in 750w powertube if not more.

These Powerpack batteries offer the best weight/energy ratio ever designed as described below:

Old BES2 system:

Powerpack 500: 2.7kg = 185wh/kg

Smart BES3 system:

Powerpack 400: 2.2kg = 182wh/kg

Powerpack 545: 2.9kg = 188wh/kg

Powerpack 725: 3.8kg = 190wh/kg

Powertube 750: 4.4 kg = 170wh/kg

Lapierre announces elevation changes of +/- 2350m in Race mode for a 70kg tester for the Team and SE Alpine models and +/- 2000m in Turbo for the Elite model.

At the engine level, Lapierre still uses the Bosch Performance Line CX for the Elite model and CX Race on the Team and SE Alpine models. The conventional model weighs 2.9kg compared to 2.75kg for the Race which adopts magnesium housings and elements and an assistance level of 400% compared to 340% for the CX and specific programming parameters as well as the possibility of modifying them via the Ebike flow application.

As on the Overvolt AM 750wh of their range and Lapierre has also thought of large air inlets for cooling to overcome any frequent heating problem in very sporty use.

The Bosch eBike flow application

Controlling the engine characteristics of your GLP III has never been easier thanks to the connectivity of the system via the Bosch eBike Flow application and the consumption

system via the Bosch eBike Flow app and the KIOX console.*
Choosing and setting modes, adjusting power, modulating responsiveness, everything becomes interactive and allows you to optimize the engine performance to your riding style.

The GLP III TEAM and SE Alpine are equipped with Race, Turbo, eMTB, Tour+ and Off modes.
The GLP III Elite has Turbo, eMTB, Tour+, Eco and Off assistance.

Brakes: Shimano the past, impossible climbs become the favorite playground of the GLP3. (…) Absolutely amazing and we don’t remember having ridden a bike as efficient in these circumstances. (…) The GLP3 has taken the good ingredients of the GLP2 and pushed them a notch further, and it’s absolutely amazing! (…) Forget its still very particular look: for us, what you have before your eyes is quite simply one of the best VTTAE on the market today!”

Read the test

EnDHurobike: “On the ground, the developments seem to be very present. The GLP3 seems to offer better hydraulic support and increased stability. (…) It’s a machine that seems to work hard, very hard!”

VTTAE.FR: “The GLP 3 amazed me with its versatility. (…) But it’s also and above all a machine for pedaling, for technical climbs and crossings. (…). In Enduro and in competition, the GLP 3 is most certainly the ultimate machine today."

Read the presentation

Velovert.com: "Its balance is almost magical! In all honesty, without mentioning its reliability, because we have not ridden long enough to be able to check its aging, if I had to invest in an eMTB, this Overvolt GLP would be at the top of the list. It clearly sets the record straight! It is quite simply the best current choice or the most suitable mountain bike for our practice of electric mountain biking."

Geometry

Concerning the geometry, Lapierre wanted to improve the behavior on the climb without losing the qualities on the descent, resulting in small adjustments so that the rider is perfectly balanced and at the "heart" of the bike.

This translates into:

1 - A straighter seat tube angle at 77° (+1°) in line with the trend for Enduro practice. The rider's position is therefore more forward, which allows the masses to be recentered and the rearing effect due to the short chainstays to be reduced.
2 - Modification of the steering angle to 64° (-1°) on all sizes to fit the 170 mm forks
3 - A shorter top tube on sizes M/L/XL, but with a longer reach on all sizes
4 - A more sloping top tube and a shorter seat tube (-3cm) recenters the masses a little more.
