The basis for the development of this model remains focused on centralization and maximum lowering of the center of gravity.

Lapierre wanted to give more importance to certain details such as inserting the seat post as large as possible in order to give small sizes the possibility of mounting dropper posts in 125 mm instead of 100 mm, for example.

It is for these reasons that the "Overvolt TR" platform has been completely reconsidered. We first decided to position the engine more vertically. This allows the battery to slide in or out by sliding in front of it while being placed as low as possible.

The lower battery holder with its SUV style is also intended to protect the lower part of the down tube. The removable battery is maintained by a specific "lock" and the connections have been placed on the upper part of the diagonal tube in order to avoid any problem in the event of immersion of the lower part of the bike, when crossing a river by example.

The charging socket was also placed above the engine for the same reasons. A shim has been made to allow compatibility with Powertube 500 Wh batteries.

 


 

Suspension

 

We find the characteristics of the suspension of the eZesty. There is also the possibility of being able to mount a container positioned at the lowest. From an aesthetic point of view, you get smoother lines between the top tube and the seat stays than with the old OST + kinematics, but also a lower ratio allowing to lower the pressure in the shock absorber.

The "streamlined" shape of the upper part of the seat tube eliminates the need for "reinforcements" at the connection to the top tube. The bike maintains a "slopping" and clean appearance regardless of the frame size. The frame design takes into account engine cooling via wide side openings.

In order to respond as well as possible to the constraints linked to ever larger cassettes, the derailleur hanger is new for more rigidity of the zone, synonymous with precision of changes while retaining its role of “fuse”.

The "rooting" of the ducts / hoses has been improved and fully guided for ease of maintenance and noise reduction. The rigidity of the rear section has also been the focus of attention in order to keep up with the constraints of the power developed by the engine. To do this we increased the size / section of the bases and the main pivot.

 

Géométrie

 

With the aim of lowering the center of gravity (and of the 2 main masses of the bike, which are the battery and the motor), the height of the bottom bracket has been refined / lowered to 340 mm, thanks to the selection of short cranks ( 160 mm for S / M and 165 for L / XL).

The shorter chainstays of the Overvolt TR “Gen 4” (440 mm, 30 mm less than the old model) help to minimize the impact of the masses since it is as if we were transferring part of the weight of the front to back. To avoid losing traction and balance on steep climbs, we have increased the angle of the seat post (76 ° in M, but the angle changes depending on the size).

The reach has also been lengthened in order to be more centered on the bike and to gain stability on the fast sections. We have taken into account the large sizes with a scalable and adapted reach. For this Aluminum version, we have chosen to keep 27.5+ wheels in front and behind, convinced that this format is suitable for the greatest number of people in the context of practical comfort / pleasure. But you should know that the bike is equipped with a 27.5 + / 29 compatible fork and that it therefore offers the possibility of being oriented towards a more "Racing" practice by offering the gain in precision of a 29 wheel.

 


 

Cinématique et Anti-squat

 

The kinematics have therefore been completely reworked. It uses the characteristics of the kinematics of the Spicy / Zesty / eZesty but also of the Overvolt AM GLP 2 in 160 mm. The shock absorber is placed under the upper tube for the reasons seen further upstream and because its weight is half the weight of a container filled with water positioned just above the engine with therefore a much less penalizing influence than have a full container positioned under the upper tube. 

 

 

The ratio has been reduced in order to put less strain on the shock absorber by lowering the air pressure. We switch to 185x50 mm stroke against 190x45 mm on the previous kinematics. The anti-squat is not extreme in order to let the suspension work on rough terrain and promote traction. All the work was to find the right balance in order to have a sufficiently important anti-squat uphill and thus have a little pressure on the front of the bike, but without this being too important and having a negative effect on the battery consumption.
